About 4A and this page

4A was created in 14S to advocate for the Pan-Asian community at Dartmouth.

This website was made so that students and alumni of Dartmouth College, as well as other institutions, can learn the history behind the efforts to institutionalize Asian American Studies* at Dartmouth. We’ve noticed how circular our attempts to establish Asian American Studies have been over the years, and hope that the documents and resources on this website will help students build on previous initiatives and organize more effectively.

If you are a Dartmouth alum who was involved in the push for Asian American Studies at Dartmouth and have documents you would like to share with us, for private and/or public use, please email asian-american.students.for.action@dartmouth.edu.

*Note: The name “Asian American Studies” has been up for debate, with other recommended titles including “Asian Diasporic Studies”, “Transnational Asian Studies,” “Trans-Pacific Studies,” and so on. We use the term “Asian American Studies” here because of the historical usage of the term in academia and student activism at Dartmouth.
